What to bring on the day

  • Any relevant tests results (blood, x-ray and scans along with the CD with x-ray/scan images)

  • A list of your current medication

  • A family member or friend, if you wish

Large medical files and scans/Xrays may require review after your consultation, possibly at our monthly multidisciplinary team meetings.

Follow up appointments and Questions

A review/follow-up visit is often necessary to discuss test results.  Telehealth consultations may be suitable, for follow up appointments only. Email is the preferred method of correspondence and we will endeavour to reply to queries within 1 week, unless we are on annual leave. MRI scans will usually require review with one of our own Musculoskeletal Radiologists at a Multidisciplinary team meeting – these meetings take place once every 2-4 weeks. Please do not send any Text/WhatsApp messages to any of the office/nurse mobile numbers.

Correspondence

After your visit we will always correspond back to the referring doctor, and with your agreement/request, to any other relevant Health Care Provider, with our conclusions and recommendations.

Joint and Soft tissue Injections

If recommended as part of your treatment, these injections will usually require a separate Joint Injection Clinic appointment.  Most insurers cover the cost of these injections. Certain injections may require image guidance, which are performed by our experienced Radiologists.

Prescriptions

Your prescriptions can be emailed, (through @healthmail), directly to your Pharmacy and are usually valid for up to 6 months. There is a charge for issuing repeat prescriptions but this may also require a Telehealth or Nurse consultation. We will endeavour to complete prescriptions within 5 working days, but this will not be possible during annual leave periods.  Hi-Tech drug prescription renewals may take 2-4 weeks to process. Your GP should provide you with your prescriptions for all other, non-rheumatology related, medications.

Hospital Admission

The Mater Private Hospital via the Emergency Department provides urgent assessments and admission, if needed.  Most Health Insurance policies provide cover for admissions to the Mater Private Hospital, but you should check your Insurance Cover if Hospital admission is needed.  We are unable to provide an emergency service.

Reimbursement of Fees

Most Health Insurance policies reimburse a proportion of the cost of your visit.  Many Corporate Health Insurance plans will cover up to 75% of a Consultant visit. In addition, you should be eligible to claim tax relief through Revenue for all health related costs.  Dermot Goode at Total Health Cover has provided this summary.
